We're all cranking over here at the magazine, getting ready for the upcoming AES convention coming to San Francisco in November. No doubt there'll be tons of amazing new audio goodies to check out on the show floor—we're already scoring some exclusive gear scoops, which you'll get to read about in upcoming issues—but we're also looking forward to a killer panel program. Before you glaze over thinking about overhead projectors and endless strings of calculus equations (not that we tech geeks aren't into that!), take a look at this year's offerings, which feature a spectrum of workshops covering everything from interviews with the producers and engineers behind Grammy-winning hits to promoting yourself through social networks to getting your music into games like Rock Band. (I'm particularly interested in the panels examining quality issues in mastering, and the economic issues facing the live sound industry.) There's even a mobile calendar app, kids.
In today's fragmented music industry, this is a great opportunity to make a human connection, learn creative and technological skills, and interact with pros at the top of their game. There's something for everyone, from hard-core engineers to pure music lovers. So get your hands-on time with the hot gear on the show floor, but make the most of your AES experience by taking in a workshop, hopping on a tech tour, making some new friends...and while you're cruising around the show floor, come by the EQ booth and say hello. We're at booth #1309, and we'd love to meet you...
