Guru of Gang StarrThis morning, MTV posted the sad news about the passing of Gang Starr's Guru yesterday, April 19: "Just over a month since undergoing surgery following a heart attack, Gang Starr MC Guru (born Keith Elam) has died at age 43. According to a statement, Guru died of cancer-related causes on Monday after a long fight with the disease."

We're pretty bummed about this news here at EQ because Gang Starr had such an influence on hip-hop, and Guru had a gift to seamlessly blend hip-hop with jazz through his incredible Jazzmatazz series of albums. He'll be missed throughout the music industry. Check out the full story here.

Devon CliffordIn other sad news, You Say Party! We Say Die! drummer Devon Clifford died at age 30 after having a massive brain hemorrhage onstage at Vancouver’s Rickshaw Theatre last Friday, April 16.

Read the story in the Vancouver Sun here.
