Northern Ireland has been doing a showcase of Irish bands for a few years now here at SXSW. We were very impressed by the set from Cashier No. 9, moving easily from jangly hooks (think Matthew Sweet meets The Shins), into harder rocking numbers and dreamy acoustic guitar flavored ballads. Well crafted songs, great voices from multiple singers, interwoven guitar lines, percussion and synths made for a totally ear catching performance. The real trick in this band is in their layering of all that, only enhancing the songs and never crowding the mix. We highly recommend you check out their June 2011 release on Bella Union Records, "To The Death Of Fun". Definitely one of the picks of the show. Do yourselves a favor and get hip to the music and film culture of Northern Ireland, Belfast Rocks! www.cashierno9.com
