Elemental
Audio Systems has announced Neodynium (Mac/Win; $139), a compressor and dynamics
processing plug-in available in RTAS, Audio Units, and VST formats. Neodynium
introduces a new visual approach to compression. Instead of virtual knobs, Neodynium
is controlled using a graphical depiction of its compression settings. According
to Elemental Audio, Neodynium's Input/Output (I/O) Map provides a complete visual
picture of the amount of compression being applied and the audio levels being
affected, unlike the transfer curves and displays found on other compressors.
The manufacturer adds that Neodynium has the ability to process distinct, user-specified level ranges, which should not be confused with multi-band compression. The plug-in includes a selectable side-chain/key input, the availability of up to three key filters (chosen from seven filter types), target and processed key meters, peak and RMS analysis, a look-ahead feature, an auto-limiter, automatic gain compensation, and support for high sample rates. Neodynium is also available bundled with Elemental Audio Systems Firium and Eqium EQ plug-ins. A non-time-limited demo is available online.
