Digidesign Reveals Reel Tape Suite and Structure

By | Tue, 23 Jan 2007

New plug-ins were this year's NAMM focus for Digidesign, which lifted the curtain on a set of analog-tape emulations called Reel Tape Suite ($495), as well as an RTAS sampler dubbed Structure (price TBD).

Reel Tape Suite comprises the Reel Tape Saturation, which models tape machine and tape formulation characteristics; Reel Tape Delay, which recreates tape-echo effects; and Reel Tape Flanger, which (you guessed it) simulates tape flanging effects. The suite offers three different tape recorders and two tape formulations to choose from, as well as a host of specific controls for each plug-in. Reel Tape Saturation ($295) will also be available separately.

Developed by Digidesign's Advanced Instrument Research group, Structure is a virtual sampler designed for Pro Tools. Along with a sample library from EastWest, Structure includes a 128-level multitimbral sound engine as well as support for unlimited nestable patches, up to 8-channel interleaved samples, and surround formats as high as 24-bit/192 kHz in 7.1 surround. Furthermore, Structure enables you to drag and drop Pro Tools regions into the sampler and modify them with its built-in sample editor. Structure is compatible with nonencrypted SampleCell, EXS24, and Kontakt 2 libraries. Information about the soon-to-be launched Structure public beta program will be available at www.digidesign.com/structure.
