Jill Barber’s U.S. debut is a perfect ’60s lounge throwback, complete with gentle vibes; dramatic, swelling orchestral strings; Bacharach-style horn arrangements; and sweet, restrained singing from a vocalist with character—very different from today’s overemotive American Idol thing. The most rocking track on Mischievous Moon is the addictive single “Oh My My”; there’s no cure for the broken-hearted girl in this song, unless it’s the elegant cool of the rest of the songs on Mischievous Moon.
