Algomusic has released MaxScore, a Max/MSP object that provides standard Western music notation in the Max/MSP environment. How it works: MaxScore accepts messages to create a score, adds notes to it, transforms them, performs it, saves and loads the score, and exports the finished score to popular formats that can be published.

More than a notation tool, MaxScore can play back and perform a score and drive your MSP patches through an instrument interface. You can also create and modify scores in real-time, add notes by specifying durations and pitches, use Max to generate an arbitrary stream of musical events, and use MaxScore''s Transcriber to notate them automatically.

MaxScore currently exports to MusicXML for easy loading into programs such as Finale and Sibelius, as well as the GNU LilyPond automated engraving system.

MaxScore is free (but requires a JMSL license to run) and is available at algomusic.com/maxscore. Visit the site to download MaxScore and a free 30 day trial JMSL license.
