Applied Acoustics Systems has released its new acoustic-guitar software synthesizer, Strum Acoustic GS-1 (Mac/Win; $229). According to the manufacturer, Strum Acoustic GS-1 allows you to reproduce—on a keyboard—a wide range of left- and right-hand playing techniques for acoustic guitar.

This physically modeled soft synth comes with a collection of steel and nylon acoustic guitars; a voicing module that automatically voices chords played on the keyboard, in the same manner that a guitar player would on the fretboard; and an EQ, multi-effect, and reverb module. Strumming and picking actions are reproduced by an auto-strum function, strumming keys, or MIDI loops.

Strum Acoustic GS-1 works as a standalone application or within a host sequencer that supports VST, AU, and RTAS plug-in formats.
