Big FishAudio has released Metriam-Metals, Rituals & Ambiences(audio/WAV/REX), a 2-CD set of tribal drum beats, moody loops, walls ofnoise, and ethnic-electric percussion from the creators of Methods ofMayhem 2. The collection includes a wide variety of pads, rhythm beds,and single drum sounds.

E-mu Systems hasannounced the PX-7 Command Station, a drum machine that includes a128-voice synthesizer; a multitrack, pattern-based sequencer withreal-time, grid, and step recording capabilities; 13 velocity sensitivepads; 32 MB of drum and percussion sounds; three ROM expansion slots; adigital output; and a host of performance knobs, buttons, and switches.The PX-7 ships with over 100 groove sequences.

Event is nowshipping its Studio Precision 8 monitors, which are available inbiamplified and passive versions. The biamplified model features 280watts per speaker, continuously variable low- and high-frequency trimcontrols, a variable input-sensitivity control, a switchable 80 Hzhighpass filter, and balanced XLR and 1/4-inch inputs.

Eventide isoffering fully functional, time-limited demos of its line of processorplug-ins for Digidesign Pro Tools TDM systems: the H910, Omnipressor,Instant Phaser, Instant Flanger, and H949. During the seven-day trialperiod, users get unrestricted use of all five plug-ins. Further usewill require purchase of the software. Only one seven-day trial periodwill be granted per computer system. The demos can be found here.

Karma Lab hasreleased Karma Triton 1.1, a computer-based application (Mac/Win) thatallows Korg Triton (Classic, Studio, Rack, or Le) owners to generateKorg Karma-like phrases, grooves, and other musical effects, which canbe altered in real-time. The feature-list is extensive, and a trip toKarma Lab's Web site is recommended.

KlaarMobile Entertainment's Syntrax (formerly known as Jaytrax) is asoft synth/sample player/sequencer for the PocketPC PDA. Syntrax offerseight simultaneous stereo audio channels, bi-directional samplelooping, real-time synthesis, and it supports memory cards. A versionfor desktop computer, complete with a PocketPC skin, is alsoavailable.

Danish developer Mik Sybrandt is offering a number of freeWindows-based VST instruments, some for Image-Line Software's FLStudio, including the Yuno 1 and MP5.

MusicPal, a MIDI program for the handheld Palm, isnow up to version 1.1. The program allows you to record and play MIDIfiles, and swap them with your Windows PC.

PreSonusannounced that its Firestation FireWire interface is now compatiblewith Mac OS X 10.2.5 and has updated drivers for Windows XP. The newWindows XP driver also adds multichannel WDM support to many popularsoftware packages such as Sonar 2.0.

Sennheiser has introduced three new 800-Seriesvocal mics, the E 815S, the E 816S, and the E 817S. The E 815S has asilent lockable on/off switch and is designed for speech, vocal, orinstrument applications. The E 816S is also equipped with an on/offswitch, but has a higher output. The E 817S is designed for leadvocalists and offers a wide frequency response. Three new 900-seriesinstrumental microphones have also been introduced.

Former EMauthor John Diliberto of the nationally syndicated Public RadioInternational program Echoes is cosponsoring the event for his LivingRoom Concert series. July 23 through 27, 2003: The San Francisco Electronic Music Festival willtake place at the SomArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan Street, SanFrancisco, California. The festival will feature the work of O.blaat,Stephen Vitiello, Elise Kermani, Dan Joseph, David Wessel, HansGrusel's Krankenkabinet, Bran(...)Pos, SPL, Kristin Miltner, SeanRooney, and Kitundu. Mixed-media pieces by Berg Sigmarsson (Iceland),IRR.APP.(EXT.) (Canada), and Jim Haynes will be presented inassociation with 23 Five Inc. In additiona, the New San Francisco TapeMusic Center will present fixed-music (tape music) pieces by Ma++Ingalls, Christian Marclay, Iannis Xenakis, Aaron Ximm/Quiet American,and Karlheinz Stockhausen, among others.

BIAS is nowshipping a stand-alone edition of its noise-reduction application,SoundSoap 1.1 (Mac OS X 10.2/Win XP), as well as the 1.0.1 update ofthe VST and DirectX plug-in versions. The stand-alone version enablesusers to open their clips, clean them up, and render a new file. Theprogram supports QuickTime, AIFF, DV, WAV, and SDII file formats.

Digidesignhas launched DiSK (Digidesign Sound Knowledge), a free destination onits Web site for people who want to learn more about using Pro Tools.DiSK offers Digidesign's customers educational and training resourcesthat complement the existing resources provided on the Training andDigiZine areas of the company's site.

EastWestis now offering Ueberschall's House Musique, a 2-CD Set (audio/WAV) ofconstruction kits and instruments for lovers of disco and house musicstyles.

PreSonus isnow shipping the HP4, a compact headphone distribution amp. The ampfeatures four discrete front-panel outputs and level controls, aMonitor Level master control, and 250 mW of amplification per channel.The HP4 accepts balanced and unbalanced inputs (stereo or mono) andoffers 1/4-inch TRS outputs. It also includes an extra pair of TRSoutputs that can be used to link multiple HP4s or feed control roommonitors.

Prosoniq is now shipping the Orange Vocoder 2.0(RTAS) plug-in. The new version adds support for Mac OS X andDigidesign Pro Tools versions 5.3 through 6, and the plug-in can nowreceive MIDI messages.

Seven WoodsAudio has announced the SST-206 Space Station, a reissue of theUrsa Major Space Station reverb and effects processor in a desktopunit. The processor has AES/EBU I/O, accepts 24-bit audio at 48 or 44.1kHz, and is powered by an external supply built into the BREAKoutcable.

Sibelius hasreleased its new guitar tab and songwriting application, G7(Mac/Win). G7 enables musicians to create tablature, add lyrics andchord symbols, and create lead sheets or piano-vocal-guitar scores. Youcan also use G7 to scan tab notation and turn it into standard notationor vice versa. Purchasers of G7 will also receive a free Web page,where they can place their photo, bio, and music.

Steinbergis shipping Nuendo 2.0 (Mac OS X/Win 2000 and XP), which includes anumber of major upgrades, such as an updated mixing environment and neweffects-routing capabilities. Check out the EM review of Nuendo 1.5 here.

Universal Audioannounced a rebate program for the TDM versions of its popular PoweredPlug-Ins. As a special launch promotion for its 1176LN/SE and LA-2Aplug-ins, Universal Audio is offering existing users of Bomb Factory'sClassic Compressors a $50 dollar rebate on either the 1176 or LA-2A anda $100 rebate on the 1176/LA-2A bundle. The rebate offer is good fromJune 1 to July 31, 2003.

Universal Audiohas also announced a rebate offer on its hardware products. Purchasersof the UA 1176LN, 2-610, M-610, or 2108 receive $100 back and $200 backon the purchase of a Universal Audio LA-2A. The rebate is only good onproducts purchased between June 15 and September 1, 2003.

Access hasannounced a price reduction of its Virus Rack Classic and Virus Rack XLsynthesizers.

FurmanSound introduced the SRM-80A Signal Router/Monitor, which providessignal routing for four stereo mixdown devices (such as DAT machines,analog cassette decks, and CD burners) and monitoring for three sets ofstudio monitors or headphone amps.

Mackie Designshas announced version 3.1 software for the UAD-1 and the availabilityof Cambridge EQ, a new Powered Plug-In five-band parametric EQ. Version3.1 enables multi-card support on the Mac as well as compatibility forthe Cambridge EQ on both Mac- and Windows-based systems. Version 3.1, afree download for registered UAD-1 owners, is available from UniversalAudio or Mackie. Cambridge EQ is available for sale online.

NativeInstruments is offering the NI Complete Collection, which includesevery sound generator, instrument, and effect that the company offers.Also included are a Native Instruments mousepad and CD wallet. The NIComplete Collection, available for Mac and Windows, includes Reaktor 4,Absynth, B4 Organ, FM7, Pro-53, Kontakt, Battery, Vokator, NI-SpektralDelay, and Traktor DJ Studio 2.0. The collection is availableexclusively from the Native Instruments Online Shop and is limited to100 units. This summer special ends on July 31, 2003.

Next GenerationSoftware has released NGWave 1.60 (Win) a sound editor that offersbasic editing and processing features, and, according to themanufacturer, full crash recovery. NGWave runs on Windows 98, ME, 2000,and XP, and requires a Pentium II/Athlon with 64 MB of memory. A freetrial download is available.

Roland isoffering version 2.011 system software for its VS-2480HD and VS-2480CDportable digital studios. The update includes several pre-configuredtemplates that map the VS-2480's buttons, knobs, and faders to keyparameters of popular computer-based DAW programs including EmagicLogic 5 and Steinberg Cubase. Also included is a template for anysoftware application that can be controlled by the Mackie HUI, andusers can design their own templates. The update is available as a freedownload from the Roland US Web site.

Tactex Controlshas announced the STC 1000, a programmable single-touch controlleroffering a Kinotex NTP-01 touch surface that can be used as amulti-zone MIDI trigger or a controller for custom instruments.Preliminary specs include MIDI I/O, a 9V power supply, a power switch,a preset-selection knob, a backlit alphanumeric LCD, and memory for 16pre-programmed control presets.

TC Worksannounced that its TC Tools 3.6 plug-ins are available for Digidesign ProTools|HD and Pro Tools|24 MIX systems on both Mac OS X and Windows XPplatforms. A PACE iLok key is required for authorization. The plug-insinclude Mega Reverb, Chorus/Delay, and EQsat plug-ins, all of which nowsupport sampling rates up to 96 kHz.

Wave Artsannounced that its MasterVerb, TrackPlug, and WaveSurround plug-ins nowsupport Mac Audio Units. A free, 30-day demo is available here.
