Galaxy II Grand Piano Collection (Mac/Win; $355) is a new software instrument from Galaxy Instruments and Best Service. The collection offers characteristic "piano sounds" (resonance, release, overtones, hammer and pedal noises, and so forth) of three different concert grand pianos: the Galaxy II (the successor to the Galaxy Steinway 5.1), the Vienna Grand Imperial, and the 1929 German Baby Grand.

According to the manufacturer, all of the piano sounds were recorded separately so that they can be adjusted individually. A notable feature of Galaxy II is its one-knob control for tone color (without EQ), warmth, punch, loudness, dynamics, and Velocity. Stereo width and lid position are also adjustable.

In addition, the collection features a compressor that creates pop-piano sounds; the Warp-Machine that has four effects modules including a Pad machine; a convolution reverb; and more.

Galaxy II Grand Piano Collection comes with Native Instruments Kontakt Player 2. Owners of Galaxy Steinway 5.1 can upgrade to Galaxy II for $145. For more information, visit www.galaxypianos.com.
