Garritan announced a handful of new products at the NAMM Show this past week: the Gofriller Solo Cello, Garritan Concert & Marching Band Library, and the Personal Orchestra Soundware Library for Mackie Tracktion 3.

Following the release of the Stradivari Solo Violin, the Gofriller Solo Cello (Mac/Win; $199) is Garritan's latest software instrument. With Sonic Morphing technology, this sampled instrument lets you crossfade among dynamics; continuously control the onset, rate and speed of vibrato; and shape articulations in real time for a realistic performance.

This new instrument integrates Native Instruments' Kontakt 2 sample player and can be used as a standalone instrument, and as a VST, DXi, RTAS or AU plug-in. It can also be used with supported notation programs such as MakeMusic Finale 2007.

Also on Garritan's plate is the new Concert & Marching Band Library (Mac/Win; $239), which offers a complete collection of concert and marching band sampled instruments for realistic-sounding marching bands, concert bands, British brass bands, modern drum and bugle corps, wind orchestras, symphonic bands, wind ensembles, and more. Featuring all the instruments you would typically find in school bands—trombones, trumpets, baritones, euphoniums, sousaphones, saxes, cornets, mellophones, tenor horns, clarinets, flutes, drumline, and percussion—all you need to complete the full band experience is an army of parent volunteers and some wobbling music stands.

The library has standardized controls for dynamics, expressive control, vibrato control, tongue techniques, and mutes, and it allows you to build ensembles of varying size and instrumentation to suit your needs. Powered by Native Instruments' Kontakt Player 2, it works on a single computer, as a standalone, as a VST, DX, AU, RTAS plug-in, and with supported notation programs. The Concert & Marching Band Library is expected to ship in February 2007.

And finally, Loud Technologies Inc. and Garritan teamed up to bring you special versions of Garritan's Personal Orchestra Soundware Library bundled with Mackie Tracktion 3 (Mac/Win) and other Mackie products. The special edition of Personal Orchestra will integrate Native Instruments' Kontakt 2 Player.
