The 22nd edition of the international World Music Awards will air on Wednesday, May 28 from 8-10 p.m. ET on NBC, as well as 180 other networks around the world.

The event will be held May 27 at the glamorous Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monaco.

The World Music Awards were founded in Monte-Carlo in 1989 under the High Patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco and have showcased some of the greatest performers of all time, including Michael Jackson, who performed for the last time on TV with Beyoncé and Rihanna at the 2006 WMAs in London. This year’s Awards will take place in Monte-Carlo just after the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival where the whole of the Entertainment Industry will be. The best-selling most popular recording artists from every major record-buying country will be celebrated on one night at this Musical Olympics. American artists already confirmed to perform include superstar Mariah Carey, who will receive an Icon Award for having sold over 200 million records and having more No.1 singles in America than any other Solo Act, the world’s hottest Performer of the year Miley Cyrus, R&B top Performer Jason Derulo, Rock Idols Fall Out Boy, Rap Maestro Flo Rida and new singing sensation Cris Cab, produced by Pharrell Williams.

Other top music acts from around the globe on the show include UK’s no.1 Hip Hop Superstar Tinie Tempah, sizzling showman DJ Naughty Boy, UK Pop Idol James Arthur, European Superstars Stromae, Tal, Laura Pausini, David Bisbal, Ylvis and Chinas no1 Entertainer Han Geng.

Ricky Martin will collect the Latin Legend Award for his global record sales.

More announcements will be made in the next two weeks leading up to the telecast.

Awards are presented on sales merit and voted by the public on the Internet. There is no jury involved and the winners are determined by the actual fans who vote and buy the records. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) provides the organization with the names of the best-selling artists from the major record buying territories. The world's best-selling recording artists in each category are determined by a thorough inquiry conducted by the organization that includes sales figures and record certifications over the past year. Awards for World's Best Male Artist, Best Female, Best Group, Best Electronic Dance Music Artist, Best Entertainer of the Year, Best Live Act, Best Song, Best Album and Best Video are voted on www.worldmusicawards.com.

The World Music Awards charitable endeavors are vast. It is the only award show that builds a hospital, school or orphanage in a place of need each year. To date, 23 WMA Centers have been built through the Monaco Aide & Presence Foundation and the Comboni Missionary Association (https://www.combonimissionaries.org), saving lives and providing shelter and education to less fortunate areas in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. This year the World Music Awards will build its second orphanage in Haiti.

The World Music Awards will be produced by Marcor International in association with Out East Entertainment. John Martinotti, Melissa Corken and Steven Marrs will serve as executive producers.
