MusiCares Offers Hurricane Sandy Relief
November 12, 2012
Hurricane Sandy has been devastating and life-altering for its victims, their families, and their communities, and our thoughts and support are with everyone who continues to deal with its aftermath.
As we demonstrated with our rapid and effective responses to natural disasters ranging from Hurricane Katrina and the Nashville flood, MusiCares® has established a fund to support members of the music community affected by this most recent catastrophe. The MusiCares Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund has been set up so music people in crisis can quickly get help. Assistance includes basic living expenses such as shelter, food, utilities, and transportation; medical expenses including doctor, dentist and hospital bills, and medications; clothing; instrument and recording equipment replacement; relocation costs; home repairs; debris removal; and more.
Music people seeking assistance and individuals interested in supporting MusiCares’ relief efforts should visit www.musicares.org, where they can find:
*An application to apply for assistance: www.grammy.org/files/pages/sandy_relief_app.pdf
*Toll-free contact numbers: 1.877.303.6962 or 1.877.626.2748
*A list of other resources: www.grammy.org/files/pages/sandy_relief_resources.pdf

MusiCares is able to take action to provide immediate assistance to music people in times of crisis, and this instance is no different. MusiCares’ safety net of resources really mirrors the generosity of the music industry at large, and we as an organization are committed to helping members of our music family who have been most directly impacted by these unimaginable events.
Music has always had a unique power to heal, to teach and to unite people, and we all know the difference it has made in our lives. As we enter this upcoming holiday season, we hope that music helps give you and yours some peace and comfort during the recovery process. Please know that your Academy and MusiCares is here for you, and we will continue to be there for those who require assistance for as long as the need remains.
