Roland has announced the VS-2000CD, which offers 20 recording tracks, 320 virtual tracks, 8 XLR inputs (with phantom power), an optional VGA output with mouse-based graphical editing, a 40 GB hard drive, and a USB 2.0 port. The VS-2000CD works at 16 and 24 bits and can be used as a 40-channel digital mixer. Onboard effects include COSM amp and microphone modeling as well as a Harmony Sequence function. A chromatic tuner is also included.
The VS-2000CD comes with a rhythm track feature, which lets users program stereo drums on tracks 17 and 18 using PCM sounds. A variety of preset patterns are included, and users can create their own patterns.
The VS-2000CD is also the company’s first V-Studio with plug-in support, using the optional VS8F-3 Plug-In Effect Expansion Board. The VS8F-3 comes with Roland's own suite plug-ins, and it supports third-party plug-ins from Antares, IK Multimedia, Massenburg, and Universal Audio, among others. Tracks can be mastered with the Mastering Tool Kit and burned to CD using the internal CD-RW drive.
