YAMAHA 0 2R96

Yamaha's 02R96 mixer offers as many as 56 channels of 24-bit, 96 kHz audio. Unlike many digital-audio mixers, the 02R96 gives you the full number of channels regardless of resolution or bit depth. The unit's analog preamps derive from Yamaha's DM2000 mixer, and internal processing is 32-bit. The unit's anticipated retail price is in the neighborhood of $11,000.

Twenty-four motorized 100 mm faders offer instantaneous switching to govern any of the 56 channels. You can assign channels to any available inputs, outputs, effects, and channel inserts with the onscreen digital patching system. Each of the 56 input channels can be routed directly to any digital or analog output, and eight auxiliary buses are freely assignable. A dedicated cascade bus allows two 02R96 consoles to be connected without losing a card space.

Each of the 02R96 channels offers independent compression, gating/ducking processors, and 4-band parametric EQ. The equalizers offer two separate algorithms that deliver two different equalization responses.

The 02R96 has a joystick with 128-by-128-step resolution for surround panning. Multichannel surround displays let you view channel positioning at a glance.

The 02R96 provides scene-based automation as well as dynamic mixing capabilities. You get 99 scenes, and the included Studio Manager software gives you additional scene memory. Sixteen keys offer user assignments that can control any function, including muting for individual surround speakers, track arming on a recording unit, or functions for a computer-based digital audio workstation.

The mixer has 16 XLR and 8 balanced ¼-inch TRS analog inputs. Each of the XLR inputs has an unbalanced ¼-inch channel insert and offers 48V phantom power. Analog outs are a pair of RCA and balanced XLR jacks for stereo outputs; 2 balanced TRS jacks each for studio monitor and control room outs, respectively; 8 TRS outputs; and 16 unbalanced ¼-inch insert outs. A ¼-inch stereo headphone jack is also provided. Digital I/O is handled by an AES/EBU jack, RCA S/PDIF connectors, and an RS422 port. Four slots for Yamaha's Mini YGDAI cards give you plenty of room for I/O expansion. Yamaha Corp. of America; tel. (714) 522-9011; e-mail info@yamaha.com; Web www.yamaha.com.
