Dangerous
Music has announced D-Box ($1,400), a multipurpose hardware unit
for DAW users. The 1U rack-mount box features eight channels of
Dangerous Music's analog summing technology and an integrated
programmable monitor control section with analog and digital inputs, an
onboard 24-bit/96 KHz D-to-A converter, talkback, and dual headphone
amps.
Digidesign has announced Velvet ($249), an
RTAS electric piano plug-in for Pro Tools systems. Velvet emulates the
sound quality and playing feel of the Fender Rhodes Suitcase, the Fender
Rhodes MK I and MK II Stage Pianos, and the Wurlitzer A200. It has 100
presets and features modeled emulations of classic tube overdrive,
compression, EQ, wah/filter, chorus, tremolo, and tape delay.
Korg has
announced its MR professional 1-bit mobile recorders. The handheld MR-1
is capable of 1-bit/2.8 MHz recording and playback and has dual mini
balanced inputs, a stereo electret condenser mic, and a stereo headphone
jack. The tabletop MR-1000 delivers up to 1-bit/5.6 MHz recording and
playback and features low-impedance mic preamps, balanced XLR/1/4"
inputs with phantom power and built-in limiting, and XLR and RCA
outputs. Both MR recorders support multiple recording formats, including
DSDIFF, DSF, and WSD 1-bit formats, as well as multi-bit PCM format
(BWF) with resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz.
MOTU is
shipping the 8pre (Mac/Win; $595) FireWire audio interface. The 8pre
offers 8 mic inputs, 8-channel ADAT optical digital I/O and MIDI I/O, a
16 x 8 digital mixer, onboard SMPTE timecode synchronization, and
AudioDesk workstation software. According to the manufacturer, the
interface can function as an 8-channel analog-to-digital converter when
not connected to a computer.
