Summer NAMM 2011: 'Guitar Player' Records to Offer "Instant Record Deals" at "Wanna Play Music Day"

June 20, 2011

Guitar Player magazine's Editor in Chief, Michael Molenda, will be awarding "instant" digital recording contracts to worthy instrumental guitarists and bands during Summer NAMM's "Wanna Play Music Day," Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Guitar Player recently launched its own record label imprint—Guitar Player Records—via a partnership with MI5 Recordings and Universal. Molenda will be available to listen to CDs from all musicians during a specified time span, and will decide right then and there whether a hopeful musician wins a digital distribution contract with Guitar Player Records.

"It's rather like the 'cassette roulette' events that music publishers and songwriting associations used to have for songwriters back in the day," says Molenda. "I always thought those were exciting and excruciating. Someone would listen to about 30 seconds of your tune, and you were either in or out. I'm looking for transcendent instrumental guitarists or bands with great guitarists and great songs for the GP label, and I'm looking forward to seeing who comes in the door with something that will blow my mind."

The exact time for the "Instant Record Deal" event will be confirmed in the next few weeks, and an announcement will be made via www.guitarplayer.com, as well as through Guitar Player's Facebook page and Tweets. The "Wanna Play Music Day" event is open from 10 am until 4 pm on Saturday, July 23.
