Once again scouring the vaults, this time for rare Latin funk gems, Chicago’s Numero Group unearths early- ’70s Puerto Rican septet Los Nombres, who successfully combined War-worthy funk with mellow, three-part harmony pop akin to Gary Puckett and the Union Gap or The Rascals. This potent amalgam, combined with some energetic jazz-psyfreak blowouts, make this an impossible oddity too eclectic to ignore.
