VirSyn Announces Cantor Vocal Synthesizer

April 7, 2004

VirSyn has announced Cantor (Mac/Win), an 8-part vocal synthesizer. The user enters the words in English and then plays them from a MIDI keyboard in real-time. According to the manufacturer, Cantor's Voice editor lets you edit the character of the virtual singer by defining the base spectrum for vowels and consonants. The application also includes a Phoneme editor, which allows you to define the formant structure and the noise characteristic of each phoneme used by the vocal engine. Cantor offers real-time control over vibrato rate and depth as well as the character of the singing voice (female or male).

The real-time editing controls include Brightness, Humanize, Metallize, Gender, Vibrato, and Breath Noise. Cantor supports microtonal scales and can operate as a standalone application or within applications supporting VST 2, AU, RTAS, and ReWire. For more information, visit www.virsyn.com .
