ARP (aka Alexis Georgopoulos) will be playing select shows across the southern United States with Caribou in support of the release of his sophomore album, The Soft Wave, out now on Smalltown Supersound. The ARP live show is a multimedia experience. ARP plays a small collection of vintage synthesizers, guitar, and Ebow. Played as a continuous 40-minute stream, the set draws heavily on material from The Soft Wave, improvisation and all new songs. His music is accompanied by a lush, psychedelic film made specifically for the live show by Geogopoulos and filmmaker Paul Clipson. The film, a Christian Marclay-esque montage, culls from familiar films and art house classics to create something utterly unique – at once taking the viewer to distant, epic environments and triggering enigmatic memories. Put together, sound & vision, the effect is dreamy, visceral and ultimately, transcendent.
Recorded as Georgopoulos relocated from San Francisco to New York, The Soft Wave is a warm, enveloping music that succeeds somewhere outside the hyper-compressed digitalization of our age. It’s expansive in scope, unfolding like a collection of short stories or film vignettes with each piece building upon the other. Hear select tracks below.
