Honors the legendary Les Paul with H.E.A.R. Leadership Award

Our endeavor to unite the music industry with the hearing health and medical community in order to raise awareness about and improve upon hearing conservation in New York was a great success!

During H.E.A.R Day New York a panel of medical and health advocate experts discussed how to improve hearing conservation for performers, professionals, and consumers of music to ensure continued creation, performance and enjoyment in less harmful ways. H.E.A.R. Day New York panel of medical and health advocates experts included Joseph Montano Ed.D, (moderator) Weill Cornell Medical Center, Craig Kasper Au.D, New York Hearing Doctors, Kathy Peck, ED, hearing impaired musician and Co-Founder of H.E.A.R., Marty Garcia, President of Future Sonics, Richard Einhorn, hearing impaired composer and hearing health advocate and presenter Jennifer Leff, LCSW Director, East Region MusiCares, and master of ceremony, Trustee of The Music Performance Trust Fund, Dan Beck.

Bill De Blasio, Mayor of New York City proclaimed Oct 28, 2014 Hearing Education and Awareness Day to venerate the inaugural H.E.A.R. Award for Leadership Award posthumously honoring the legendary Les Paul and the H.E.A.R. Day- New York Music Leadership Conference event.

"Les Paul was a friend of H.E.A.R." explained Kathy Peck, ED of H.E.A.R., "Les knew that further work was going to be necessary in the area of music hearing conservation. Now, along with partner the Les Paul Foundation and others, H.E.A.R. presents schools with Listen Smart Workshops and the Listen Smart Film Series that will allow us to continue our mission in providing services and educating the public to hearing conservation."

The conference began with a “Managing Hearing and Hearing Loss for Musicians” practicum conducted by Marshall Chasin, AuD, MSc, Director of Auditory Research at the Musicians' Clinics of Canada, being offered to hearing health providers at the Weill Cornell campus. Following in the evening was an information and educational panel for industry leaders at the Yamaha Piano Salon for The H.E.A.R. Day-New York! Music Leadership Conference comprising of the AFM, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, Disney, Sony Music, Universal Music, Warner Music Group, Fair Media Council, WINS, Bentley-Hall Publishing, Making Music, International Musician, Variety, Women in Music, The Recording Academy - New York, Billboard, USA Today, Fox News, Etymotic Research, Weill Cornell Medical, The Les Paul Foundation, Hearing Health Foundation, MusiCares, H.E.A.R., The Music Performance Trust Fund. Additional health and music industry executives and professionals were sourced for a leadership conference to discuss music hearing conservation and well being of musician and music people.
