Kishi Bashi Announces 'String Quartet Live!'

Collection Features Re-Imagined Familiar Songs

Following the release of his critically-acclaimed sophomore album Lighght earlier this year on Joyful Noise, Kishi Bashi has announced a new release, due out on November 13th. Recorded live with string quartet, the new album -- appropriately titled String Quartet Live! -- consists of nine songs from both 151a and Lighght (and one Talking Heads cover!) performed live by K and an accompanying string ensemble.

Having recorded, toured, and collaborated with artists like Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and Of Montreal, Kishi Bashi launched what would become a successful and celebrated solo career in 2011. Though he studied classical composition and considers the violin his primary muse, his songs feature a diverse mix of instrumentation and unconventional songwriting, resulting in a unique and experimental sound that defies genre.

Where his first two releases featured an array of percussion and electronic elements, the new live album finds K’s familiar songs reimagined, allowing his soaring vocals to take center stage above a foundation of interweaving strings. The string ensemble gives new life to these tracks, with updated arrangements and the infectious energy that can only come from Kishi Bashi's amazing live performances.

String Quartet Live! is currently available for pre-order. The VIP Edition is limited to 500 copies on cyan & red split-color vinyl with yellow splatter, and includes a bonus flexi-disc containing a live cover of Beirut's "A Sunday Smile." Each VIP copy is signed by Kishi Bashi.
