Les Paul’s 100th Anniversary Celebration kicks off Tuesday, June 9, 2015 in Times Square New York. A full day of star-studded, historical events and programs kicks off a year-long celebration of the man many call the “father of modern music.”

The day will begin with a 10:00 am presentation and photo op with rock icon Journey’s Neal Schon accepting a proclamation from Michael Braunstein, Executive Director of the Les Paul Foundation on the steps of Les Paul’s Big Sound Experience. The proclamation will state New York City as being proclaimed Les Paul Day on Tuesday June 9th in honor of the late innovator who would have been 100 years old. Following the proclamation announcement and photo op, Les Paul’s Big Sound Experience will open to the public on 44th and Broadway right inside Times Square. The 53’ foot interactive state-of-the-art mobile touring exhibit that will kick off a national tour gives guests the opportunity to experience 1,000 square feet of music exploration, sound and technology innovations and hands-on interactive entertainment. Visitors will even be able to mix and share music as they discover Les Paul and it is free. Simultaneously around the country other cities including Nashville, Waukesha, WI and Hollywood will proclaim it Les Paul Day. An exclusive limited engagement Les Paul memorabilia exhibit will open at the Hard Rock Cafe New York showcasing some never-before-seen inventions and articles straight from Les’ own house. The exhibit will only be open from Tuesday June 2nd through Monday June 15th, 2015.
A star-studded sold-out official Les Paul 100th Anniversary celebration will begin with the red carpet arrivals at 6:00 p.m. Stars from entertainment and fashion will arrive between 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at 43rd and Broadway before the musical celebration begins inside. The sold-out event features iconic musicians and some surprises that only Les Paul could have dreamed of. Performing in celebration of Les Paul are friends and influences including Joe Bonamassa, Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes, Steve Miller, Joe Satriani, Journey’s Neal Schon, Steve Vai, Count’s 77, Johnny A and Lou Pallo and the Les Paul Trio. Opening the evening’s performance will be a special surprise. Others attending include famed fashion designer and music producer John Varvatos, TV show host and radio personality Eddie Trunk, famed rock photographer Robert Knight, musicians including Zakk Wylde, Bumblefoot, Marky Ramone, Mark Hudson, Gene Cornish from The Rascals, legendary music producers Bob Ezrin and Jack Douglas, Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French, Sonya Hensley, DJ Premiere, producer Joe Louis Walker, London-based Soundwaves artist Tim Wakefield, the Brumley Music family, the band from the new FX Series “Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll,” Rick Derringer, Jackie “The Joke Man” Martingly, North Mississippi All Stars’ Luther Dickerson, guitarist Steve Costello, Earl Slick, Dennis Coffey, Canadian Musicians Lyric Dubee, Mickey Thomas, SNL Musical Director GE Smith and Les’ son Rusty Paul and more.
Other celebratory programs and events include an official limited edition Les Paul Hard Rock Cafe Pick Pin which will be sold at the New York location for the benefit of the Les Paul Foundation. The replica pin is of the guitar pick Les Paul designed and handmade using sand paper for a better grip. The oversized pick pin will be available as of Tuesday, June 9, 2015. After the Hard Rock musical celebration there will be a private star studded jam session at The Iridium on 51st and Broadway where Les played every Monday night until his passing. It is not open to the public but media may attend by requesting credentials in advance.
