Independent artist Lia Rose, founding member of the indie rock band Built for the Sea and newest member of Or, The Whale, is set to release her debut solo album January 13th, 2011.
Lia Rose will be celebrating the release of When You Need Me Most with a special seated show at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco’s Mission District on Thursday, January 13th. All proceeds to benefit Free the Hikers.
Joining her will be several musicians who played on the album , including Tim Marcus (Or, The Whale), Andrew Macguire (Honeycomb), Anton Patzner (Judgement Day) and Eric Kuhn (Sean Hayes, Silian Rail), among others. Opening the show will be Devotionals, featuring Tyson Vogel of Two Gallants.
Having gone to school with Josh Fattal who is still being held in Iran, Rose chose to make her Release Show a benefit to help free Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer. Bauer’s fiancée Sarah Shourd was released on September 14, 2010, on humanitarian grounds and since that time, Rose has been working together with Shourd and the Free the Hikers movement to “free all three.” More information can be found at www.freethehikers.org.
Lia Rose’s music projects an intimate and personal sound, complex yet inviting. Her voice has been called “captivating and beautiful” by Tape Op Magazine; West Coast Performer remarks on the strength of her lyrics and her “dreamy vocals.” Her style has been compared to musicians such as Maria Taylor and Feist. When You Need Me Most represents Rose’s most poetic and personal work to date, both intensely honest and at times unmistakably autobiographical.
