Loop 2016 coming to Berlin

Second edition of the music makers summit announced for November 4-6 at the historic Funkhaus Berlin

Loop, the summit for music makers, returns to Berlin this November. Launched by Ableton in 2015 as a platform for music makers to meet, be inspired and learn from each other, the three-day event combines talks, performances, studio sessions, and hands-on workshops that dive deep into the topics of music, technology and creative practice. Featuring daytime and night programs, Loop will take place at the legendary Funkhaus Berlin, a former East German broadcasting and recording facility in the east of the city.

The Loop program will be announced in July. The event will be open to the public, but those wishing to attend will need to register to enter the ticket purchasing process. Registration opens on May 18th via the Loop website, and interested parties can sign up for email notifications now.

The 2015 edition saw artists such as Holly Herndon, James Holden, Matthew Herbert and AGF participate in talks, panel discussions and workshops as well as performing at venues around the city. Conversations around collaboration, artistic process and the role of technology were addressed by a diverse range of speakers and audiences, and will be further expanded upon during Loop 2016. The keynote address from last year was delivered by Robert Henke, co-developer of Ableton Live and the artist behind the celebrated Lumiere and Monolake projects, and can now be viewed here:

Funkhaus Berlin

The venue for Loop 2016 was designed and built in the 1950s by celebrated Bauhaus architect Franz Ehrlich. In its heyday, Funkhaus employed 3000 staff, and was the center for the GDR’s state radio. After a period of decline following the fall of the Berlin Wall, it is currently undergoing a creative renaissance and boasts iconic studios of all sizes that will serve as an inspirational backdrop for Loop.
