Red Bull Music Academy Radio Celebrates 10 Years, Launches Pop-Up Station in San Francisco


To celebrate its 10th year of broadcasting, Red Bull Music Academy Radio (RBMA Radio) announces the re-launch of in the U.S. with a series of pop-up radio stations, and special events planned throughout the year. It all begins February 25 when the all-new RBMA Radio debuts with nine channels, new shows, local heroes and a 2-week live broadcast from the heart of San Francisco. Be sure to stay tuned for RBMA Radio pop-ups broadcasting live from marquee music moments throughout the year, including Miami Music Week and the Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York

The RBMA Radio pop-up in San Francisco, running from February 25-March 11, will explore the history of the Bay Area’s music scene and celebrate its future. A custom broadcast studio will be built at Dijital Fix in the Mission District where the city’s foremost creative minds will produce 120 hours of programming broadcasted live daily from 2pm-10pm PST on Complemented by four one-of-a-kind nighttime performances at diverse locations across the city, music fans can experience RBMA Radio both streaming online and in-person.

Each day, guests will be invited to the RBMA Radio Pop-Up for interviews, discussions, and live sets. Confirmed guests will include: Tycho, Christopher Willits, Souls of Mischief, Honey Soundsystem, Mat Dryhurst & Holly Herndon, Triple Threat DJs, Slumberland Records, Wooden Shjips and guests from prominent local record stores - Amoeba Music, Aquarius Records, and Vinyl Dreams. Additional guests will be announced. Hosting duties will be handled by longtime Red Bull Music Academy team members Star Eyes of Trouble and Bass fame, Shawn Reynaldo - former editor of XLR8R, and Noz–the man behind the seminal hip-hop blog Cocaine Blunts.

Extending beyond the confines of the broadcast booth the RBMA Radio Pop-Up will host four special events featuring local and international artists performing at Bay Area venues including Rickshaw Stop, The Lab, 1015 Folsom, and the historic dance club-The EndUp. Confirmed artists include Big Freedia, the New Orleans Bounce Diva; computer music maestro Holly Herndon; Chicago Footwork pioneers Spinn & Taso; DJ Deeon of Dance Mania fame; Blackalicious MC Gift of Gab; East Bay hip hop legend Lyrics Born; Tommy Cappel and David Satori from Beats antique; Sax master Joshua Redman; and SF dance floor mainstays Honey Soundsystem.
