TRENDING: Dr. Dre to Release First Album in 16 Years

‘Compton: The Soundtrack’ Out August 7

Attention, Dr. Dre fans: Good things come to those who wait.

Over the weekend, the artist announced on The Pharmacy, his Beats 1 radio show, that his new record project, Compton: The Soundtrack, will be released on August 7.

Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Xzibit, The Game, and Kendrick Lamar appear on the 16-track album, which will be available exclusively through Apple Music and can be pre-ordered on iTunes.

Dre says he was moved to complete the release while watching principal photography for Straight Outta Compton, the N.W.A. biopic. ”I felt myself going to the studio and being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album," he said on Pharmacy, adding that the project “is an ‘inspired-by’ album.”

He also explained why the long-anticipated Detox was never released: “I didn’t like it. It wasn’t good…and I couldn’t do that to my fans and I couldn’t do that to myself. I just wasn’t feeling it.”
