TRENDING: Score One for the Dolphin; "Where Are Ü Now" Wins AMA

Justin Bieber, Skrillex and Diplo win for Best Collaboration.

After around a billion combined streaming audio and video plays, "Where Are Ü Now," by Justin Bieber and Jack Ü (the duo of Skrillex and Diplo) won for Best Collaboration at the American Music Awards last night.

Besides its teeny bopper appeal, the track is notable among us music production nerd types for its reliance on the non-traditional technique that Skrillex has called the "dolphin." It's sort of a ghostly, underwater shrill sound that's built from Bieber's vocals, pitched up two octaves and run through an effect chain of reverb, distortion and probably a couple more horror-movie sound effect presets.
