By now, anyone with ears and an internet connection has experienced Ryan Adams' dark, moody cover of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood"—the first release off Adams' 1989 cover album.
The record was released Sunday night, and in an interview Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show that night, Adams explained the genesis of the project: "I was going through a difficult time in my life, and by the time Christmas rolled around, it was the first time I was back in L.A. during the holidays, alone, on my own."
Adams recorded four songs on a four-track cassette recorder, which promptly ate the tracks. He then re-recorded the entire album with a full band.
