As a part of its ongoing pro audio master class series, legendary pro gear store, Westlake Pro prepares to open its door to seven time Grammy winning mixer/producer/engineer, Darrell Thorp. With a career spanning over 18 years, Darrell has worked with a wide range of top artists including Outkast, Radiohead, and most recently Beck. In this workshop, scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 7pm, the focus will be centered around Darrell’s approach to workflow using Solid State Logic.
After his four-year term in the U.S. Navy, Darrell jumped into music attending the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Phoenix, Arizona. Having played guitar throughout childhood, he was first introduced to mixing and live sound through Rafael Carmany, head sound engineer of his family church in Tucson. It was at this point that his interest in sound eclipsed his interest in live performance. Post conservatory, Darrell moved to Los Angeles and began interning with Track Records in Hollywood where he was eventually hired full time, first as a runner and six months later as an assistant. In the two room setup at Track, Darrell frequently moved from assisting and mixing in the “hip hop” room to the “rock” room, finally settling more into the rock realm of engineering. Following Track Recording, Darrell found himself working with Conway Studios and later Ocean Way Recording, the studio which led him to his partnership with Radiohead.
