File Under: Music Business News, Making Money With Music, Raising Money and Crowdfunding
What if we told you cities are starting to wake up to the value you and your music bring to the economy? Well, In the City of Austin, musicians are not alone to fend for themselves. And this has some great potential for you and the future of music.
Austin, TX -- the live music capital of the world -- recognizes the importance music and musicians bring to their city. They recognize how critical music and the arts are to the underlying fabric of the city including its culture, its attractiveness, its "livability", and its economy. As a result, the City of Austin is leading the way by creating innovative initiatives to help musicians, music venues, and the entire music ecosystem to boost music revenue and help everyone make more money with music within their borders.
We're proud to be a part of this trend, as Austin's Economic Development Department's Music & Entertainment Division (ATX) has invited us to speak at an all-day MUSICIANS REVENUE DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP this Thursday, July 28th at Soundcheck Austin (location/direction here -- but you probably recognize them as the exclusive backline support for, and a proud official sponsor of, The Austin City Limits Television Show on PBS).
This all-day event will cover critical topics such as:
- Making Money With Music
This session, which is based on the 15-hour online class we created, covers dozens of ways for musicians to generate income from their music. You'll learn how to maximize the money you make while minimizing the money you spend promoting it. We go step-by-step through proven techniques for establishing steady revenue streams in the music business -- including: distribution, merchandising, licensing, affiliate marketing, and much, much more. This ATX session will include a special emphasis on alternative revenue sources you can create beyond simply selling tracks, playing live, or selling merchandise to fans.
- The Art of Crowdfunding
This session covers how to plan, promote, and run a music crowdfunding campaign from beginning to end and before now has only been an exclusive to the the Grammy Association.
- Get Heard! 28 Categories of Opportunities to Get Your Music in the Ears of New Fans
This session covers all the categories of places where you can get heard today -- from college, public, internet, and commercial radio to podcasts, MP3 blogs, social music discovery sites and playlists, we go through each one and share how to submit your music.
- The 7 Registrations Musicians Should Do For Every Song They Release to Protect and Promote Their Music
Today it’s extremely easy to release a song and get it distributed worldwide, but we often skip the steps music labels do before they release music into the world -- steps that can ensure you get paid! This talk contains step-by-step instructions on how to: register your copyrights, get into credits databases that power streaming services like Spotify, and earn royalty income from radio and streaming performances.
- And much, much more!
Plus, as always, we'll stick around after the event to answer as many of your questions as possible.
So, if you’re in the Austin area on Thursday, July 28th, don't miss this free event! The event is free with RSVP so do so now and join us in Austin! Hope to see you there!
