Apple Computer (www.apple.com) announced that it has purchased German software and hardware developer Emagic (www.emagic.de), best known for its Logic Audio digital audio sequencer. Neither Apple nor Emagic staff would comment on the acquisition except to refer us to their press release.Under the terms of the agreement, Emagic will be run as a wholly owned division of Apple. Emagic intends to discontinue its line of Windows-based products by September 30, 2002. In response, Emagic arch-rival Steinberg (www.us.steinberg.net) is offering a competitive crossgrade ($299) for registered Logic users who want to switch to Cubase SX for PC. The offer is good until the end of September.
