Auralex Acoustics has announced Room Analysis Plus and Room Analysis Pro—programs that give studio owners a way to assess the acoustical problems of their rooms and find the best treatment for them.
Room Analysis Plus ($250) is an off-site analysis service that assesses the acoustics of a room. Users of this service begin by downloading an audio file with a swept sine signal from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, from Auralex's Web site. Users then record the sweep with an omnidirectional microphone in the location of the room in question, and then email the audio files, along with the Personalized Room Analysis Form, directly to Auralex for examination by their acoustical engineering staff. The company uses the audio files and other information to generate frequency response, impulse response, waterfall plots, and reverberation time (RT) values, without having to visit the room in person. A written report is then sent back to the user within three to five business days, outlining the acoustical issues and how to solve them. An additional measurement location can be conducted in the same room for a cost $100 per location.
Room Analysis Pro (approximately $1,500 to $2,000 per day plus expenses), on the other hand, is an on-site analysis of room acoustics and sound quality, conducted by Auralex''s lead acoustical engineer, Gavin Haverstick. The engineer works directly with the user to coordinate project details, create a quote based on job scope and site location, and schedule the actual on-site visit. Acoustical measurements are then taken and analyzed to create an acoustical analysis report within five to seven business days of the on-site visit.
