"The B-52s have been a widely popular band across multiple generations. Their unique sounds have helped to create the very foundations of pop culture and pop music that still ring very true today," said Dave Chaimson, vice president of global marketing for Sony Creative Software. "In celebration of the B-52s newest album, we're thrilled to be teaming up with the band to help both long-time fans and new admirers alike to put their own personal spin on Funplex through the ACIDplanet.com remix contest."

The B-52s have come a long way since their revolutionary 1979 self-titled debut, featuring the timeless classic single, "Rock Lobster." From the opening bursts of the album, Funplex is instantly recognizable as prime, yet contemporary, B-52s music. B-52s composer Keith Strickland said that his electronic dance music and early rock influences served as the aesthetic foundation for Funplex, calling the album "shameless dance floor party music."

Vibrant Funplex selections including "Keep This Party Going," "Ultraviolet," and "Hot Corner" reaffirm the quartet's status as "the world's greatest party band." The band also continues to take risks, yielding future favorites such as the transcendental "Juliet of the Spirits" and "Love in the Year 3000," where atmospheric introductions unfold into multi-layered harmonies and burbling beats. On the propulsive title track and first single, the three vocalists adopt distinct characters, running amok on the personas that come to life in the song.

Contestants may download select tracks from Funplex starting today and must submit their entry by midnight May 6, 2008. ACIDplanet™ remix contestants may use Sony Creative Software ACID XPress™ loop-based music production software that users can download for free or they may also use their software of choice.

The B-52s will be among the judges for the contest. First prize for the Funplex ACIDplanet.com remix contest include premium B-52s Funplex prizes, Sony Creative Software applications and a Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP). In addition, the winning track will be featured on the B-52s MySpace page. Second and third-prize winners will receive premium B-52s Funplex prizes.
