Berklee College of Music Pioneers Online Guitar Instruction, the online extension school of Berklee College of Music, has announced the addition of five new online guitar courses and five new college-credit guitar certificate programs to their online curriculum. New courses include Guitar Scales 101, Guitar Chords 101, and Blues Guitar Workshop.

Two new online courses emphasize pro audio and production:

  • Amps, Effects, and Getting Your Guitar Sound: learning how to select, combine, and arrange various effects, the qualities and attributes of different amps, and the sonic characteristics of the instrument itself.
  • Recording and Producing for Guitarists: learning to integrate a wide array of recording tools and techniques into productions, and mastering concepts including microphone placement, amplification, mixing styles, and plug-in effects.

The online guitar courses are based on the same curriculum that is taught on the physical campus but incorporate a variety of media-rich cutting-edge technologies developed specifically for guitar instruction in the online medium. Students have direct communication with their instructors through weekly scheduled chats, which also allow for lesson discussion between classmates. Additionally, students upload their assignments as MP3 files to their instructor for personalized review. "We made sure that these new courses would be of the same high quality as that of the brick-and-mortar guitar courses for which Berklee is so well known," explained Debbie Cavalier, Dean of Continuing Education at Berklee.

All online courses and programs are accredited by NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges), the same institution that accredits Berklee College of Music. To learn more about these interactive online courses, visit
