Two copies of the same audio loop are mixed. One of the copies is slightly shifted in time causing phase cancellations and an alteration of timbre. Different time-shifts are used for each repetition of the loop.
Two copies of the same string loop are played simultaneously. One of the copies is slightly shorter than the other causing them to drift farther out of phase with each repetition. Over a long period (roughly 12 minutes in this case) the shortened loop makes a full cycle and comes back into sync with the longer one. In this example, you’ll hear the first minute of the evolution.

Two four-bar rhythm guitar loops play simultaneously. One of the loops is a 16th note shorter than the other. As a result, the rhythmic interplay between the two parts changes with each repetition.
This four-bar composite loop was created in Propellerhead Reason using the Redrum sample player and a vocoder.
A speech clip is processed with Reaktor’s Travelizer Ensemble to produce a variety of different loops.

This 3-track sequence was made with Numerology’s step sequencers playing three Reason modules (drums, bass, and chords).
GRACE DESIGN Lunatec V3
A bird call, recorded at 88.2 kHz with Schopes mics and the Grace V3 into my portable computer system. There is no editing-the full call plays exactly as the bird sang it (about 45 seconds at this slow speed). Some EQ was applied to remove extraneous noise. No reverb was added--each halving of the playback speed doubles reverb time, that's why it is so ambient.
Sound #1 is a tiny drill bit, dropped onto concrete. Close miked with Schopes and Grace Lunatec V3, captured at 88.2 kHz.
Sound #2 is excerpt of drop at 1/4 speed.
Sound #3 is the excerpt as it would sound if the original capture was at 44.1, rather than 88.2 kHz. Note the extra high-freqency content present in sound #2 that is missing in sound #3.
