Expert Sleepers has released Silent Way (Mac/AU; $49), a suite of plug-ins designed to be used with a modular analog synthesizer system. The plug-ins generate signals to be used as control voltages (CVs) that can be patched into the control inputs of oscillators, filters, VCAs and so forth of an analog system.
At this time, the suite includes two plug-ins—Silent Way DC and Silent Way Voice Controller—and more are expected to be added in the near future. All Slient Way plug-ins feature full MIDI and OSC control, MIDI/OSC scripting and sample-accurate handling of MIDI note messages.
Silent Way DC generates constant output signals and is intended to be used in conjunction with parameter automation (via MIDI or directly by the host application) to generate varying signals.
Silent Way Voice Controller, a virtual instrument plug-in, directly controls an analog synth by generating the appropriate CV and gate signals via an audio interface. By listening to the synthesizer's output signal, the plug-in can calibrate itself to generate the appropriate pitch CV for the incoming MIDI notes. In addition to basic pitch and gate signals, the plug-in can generate three multi-stage envelope CVs that can be fed to VCAs, VCFs and so on.
Silent Way plug-ins are available in Audio Units format. VST-compatible versions will follow at a later time. For more information, please visit www.expert-sleepers.co.uk.
