I was impressed but not surprised by how easily both of the FireStudios communicated with my dual 2 GHz Power Mac G5. Starting with the FireStudio Project, I simply inserted the main application CD and followed the prompts to install the FireControl application. I then relaunched the Mac, powered up the already connected FireStudio Project, and waited for the flashing red light on the FireWire logo to turn solid blue. I launched Audio MIDI Setup, selected the unit''s name in the drop-down menus, and auditioned iTunes material through my powered speakers to verify communication.
When I knew that the computer and interface were playing nice, I launched MOTU Digital Performer 5.1 to see if my interfacing luck would hold out, and it did. PreSonus''s well-written user manual makes it easy to set up quickly, and though the manual offers tips on using the unit with the supplied Steinberg Cubase LE 4, I had no trouble at all selecting physical inputs and outputs from within my DAW. Any specialty routing options I needed I was able to handle from the FireControl software.
