GForce's Virtual String Machine (Mac/Win; $149.95), distributed by M-Audio, is a 2.5 GB virtual instrument that features the sounds of vintage string machines. Among those sampled for the virtual instrument are the Eminent 310, the Freeman String Symphonizer, the Solina, the Polymoog, the Elka Rhapsody, the Logan String Melody, the Korg PE2000, and more.

In short, Virtual String Machine features the G-Sampler sample playback engine, 66 sample sets, 49 notes that are sampled and looped individually, Ensemble and Phaser effects, a resonant filter section (with low, high, and bandpass), 2 envelope generators, pitch LFO, dynamics control, and more than 700 patches.

Virtual String Machine can run standalone with a MIDI controller, or as a VST, RTAS, or AU plug-in with most host applications, including Digidesign Pro Tools systems, Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase, Apple Logic and GarageBand, Cakewalk Sonar, MOTU Digital Performer, and Sony Acid.
