M-Audio has announced the Octane, an 8-channel mic preamp with ADAT Lightpipe output. Optimized for multi-channel digital recording, the Octane’s eight channels feature the preamp technology found in M-Audio’s DMP3 mic preamp.

Rear-panel connections for each channel include an XLR mic input, a balanced 1/4-inch line input, and a balanced 1/4-inch output. The front panel has 1/4-inch TS instrument inputs for channels 1 and 2. Besides the ADAT Lightpipe output, the Octane includes two wordclock BNC connectors.

On the front panel, each channel includes an input level control, a 20 dB pad, and a 3-segment LED. Phantom power (+48V) is switchable from the front panel for channels 1-4 and channels 5-8, respectively. A phase reverse switch is available on every other channel. Channel 1 has a 12 dB-per-octave highpass filter at 80 Hz, and channels 7 and 8 offer M/S matrix encoding and includes a Width control.

The 2U Octane has 24-bit resolution and a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (+/- 0.11 dB at mid gain for mic inputs, +/- 0.03 dB at mid gain for instrument inputs) for all inputs. For more information, visit the M-Audio Web site. (http://www.m-audio.com)
