Modartt has released Pianoteq 3 as a free upgrade for all current customers.
New features for version 3 include the following: a new acoustic model, microphone positioning with up to five mics, multichannel capabilities with up to five channels, new grand pianos (the Grand C3 and the Grand M3), new electric pianos (the Rhody and the Wurly), tremolo and limiter effects, new parameters, a redesigned interface, unlimited perspectives and an advanced preset and parameter manager. A 64-bit version is available for Windows Vista x64, and a Native Linux (x86) version is available as well.
The new acoustic model simulates the sound radiation of the soundboard and the cabinet; it allows you to place up to five microphones anywhere around the piano, in an illustrative interface, while the mixer lets you combine the mics into five output channels and adjust level and delay separately. Another interesting feature is Binaural mode, which uses a head model to simulate the sound heard by a person located where the head is placed in the interface; you can rotate the head in any direction and change its size, for a more realistic listening experience.
