Blue Microphones has dropped the price but not the ball on its Ball series of microphones. From now on, the Snowball USB mic, the 8-Ball cardioid condenser, the Kickball low-frequency mic, and the original Ball phantom-power dynamic will each sell for just $99.
Essential Vibraphone ($99.95) is the latest NI Kontakt 2 sample library from EdgeSounds. Showcasing Yamaha YV-3300 vibraphone samples, recorded with Neumann TLM 103 mics, the 4.5 GB collection includes 1,330 24-bit/96 kHz stereo and mono samples, 12 program banks, and six sample layers.
MakeMusic has released Finale Allegro 2007 (Mac/Mac Intel/Win; $199, full; $59.95, upgrade). With the latest version of the music-notation software, users can enter notes with a mouse, keyboard, MIDI controller, or microphone with Allegro's MicNotator application. In addition to Band-in-a-Box autoharmonization, playback software, and MIDI-editing tools, Allegro 2007 includes a new mixer, reverb options, playback and automation improvements, and chord analysis.
Just released today, Precisionsound's ARTificial Drums & Percussions ($49 download, $60 on CD), features four sound kits for modern R&B, electro, dance, ambient cinematic, and world music genres. The new collection is available in HALion, Kontakt, Battery, DR008, NN-XT, and SoundFont formats.
In the continuing wave of Windows Vista-compatibility announcements, Primera has revealed that its disc-publishing products are now onboard with the new OS. Drivers and updates are available for download from the company's Web site, and Vista-compatible software will begin shipping with Primera products this month.
