Alternate Mode is shipping the panKAT ($1,799 to $1,999) MIDI steel drum percussion controller, which has 30 playing pads in a standard C pan format. You can control pitch configurations, gate, Velocity, layering, looping, and more. Included are 128 factory kits; 128 user kits with pitch layouts for steel drum, percussion, and drums; additional inputs for bass drum and hi-hat pedals; a General MIDI sound engine; and a headphone jack.

The highest-rated loops uploaded to are now available on the "Best of BeatHive, Volume 1" loop collection ($99 plus shipping). The DVD-ROM has more than 1,200 loops in both Acidized WAV and Apple Loop AIFF formats.

IK Multimedia's Classik Studio Reverb 1.1 is now available in Universal Binary. In addition to Intel-Mac compatibility, the updated version provides dongle-free operation and compatibility with Digidesign Pro Tools 7 and VST 2.4 hosts such as Steinberg Cubase 4 and Ableton Live 6. Process your audio files en masse with Minnetonka Audio Software's AudioTools Batch Pro, an automated batch processor for converting, encoding, and applying plug-ins to sets of audio files. To use it, just specify input files, configure a chain of processors, set parameters for each processor, and run the job.

Guitar Rack is the latest addition to Puremagnetik's catalog of monthly sound libraries. A collection of loops and instruments for Ableton Live 6, Apple Logic, and GarageBand, Guitar Rack features 60 Live clips with effects and rack macros; over 20 amp models and effects for Ableton Live 6; multiple guitar styles and articulations; Apple Loops for Logic, Soundtrack, GarageBand, and Final Cut; and standalone Stratocaster instruments for Ableton Sampler and Logic EXS24. Pricing depends on your desired subscription to Puremagnetik—basic monthly is $5.75, basic yearly is $60, and premium is $98.
