The Red Bull Music Academy engages some of the finest purveyors of rhythm and sound from all over the world. Founded in 1998, the international workshop is designed to inspire artists to create and innovate by collaborating with aneclectic mix of musicians during an immersive two-week experience that includes workshops, studio sessions, live performances and master classes. The application process for this year’s Academy just kicked off and will run through April 2. More information and the application form can be found at

The Academy will take place September 30 – November 2, 2012 in New York City--the place that incubated genres like hip hop, disco, house, bop, no-wave and post-punk among others. The 60 musicians--producers, vocalists, instrumentalists and DJs across all genres--that are ultimately selected toparticipate in the all-expense-paid scholarship program will be given the chance to learn from guest lecturers and luminaries who have shaped our global musical landscape; and work on their own music in custom-built studios. By night, they will have the chance to perform in some of New York City’s most iconic clubs and concert halls.

Nearly 700 musicians have been accepted as Red Bull Music Academy participants over the past 14 years. Recent participant alumni include: Aloe Blacc, Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Muhsinah, Tokimonsta, Mr. Hudson, Jneiro Jarel, Jackmaster, Katy B and many others.

Past lecturers at the Academy include: Eyrkah Badu, ?uestlove, M.I.A., Nile Rodgers, Arthur Baker, Gary Bartz, Chuck D, A-Track, The Mizell Brothers, Adam Freeland, Biz Markie, Black Milk, Bun B, Carl Craig, David Matthews, Dam Funk, DJ Premier, Gilles Peterson, Hank Shocklee, Hugh Masekela, Jeff Mills, Jay Electronica, Just Blaze, LeonWare, Leroy Burgess, Mark Ronson, Peter Hook, Sly & Robbie and many more.
