International DJ and producer STEVE AOKI has always been at the forefront of future music. As the founder of Dim Mak Records and a Grammy-nominated electronic musician, his projects have grasped the attention of influencers and music enthusiasts worldwide. Given that he’s an avid follower of forward-thinking and evolving technology, it’s only fitting that the new album from AOKI be titled NEON FUTURE. The album will be divided into two packages with Neon Future I due out August 12 and Neon Future II to be released in early 2015 on Dim Mak/Ultra Music.
STEVE AOKI’s Neon Future is a utopian environment that showcases the relationship between humans and technology. It’s is not about flying cars and speaking cyborgs, but more so about efficient and practical enhancements that improve the quality of life as we navigate and interact with an almost exclusively digital landscape. Even the art direction for AOKI’s Neon Future intends to visually represent an idea of the future as a world with extreme technological and scientific innovation.
“When I think of the dance world, I think of how it’s a colorful world. That, along with my fascination with futurism defined the concept of my new album, Neon Future,” says STEVE AOKI. “ I see the future in a more of a utopian sense, built through technology, music and color. These concepts became the driving force for the creation of my first double album.”
Part one of Neon Future features collaborations with the likes of Fall Out Boy, Empire of the Sun, will.i.am, Flux Pavilion, Bonnie McKee and Machine Gun Kelly. The album’s first single—“Rage The Night Away” featuring Waka Flocka Flame, #1 Hype Machine track which has received over 700,000 soundcloud plays since posting on April 15 (with almost half a million posting within it’s first three days of being live on the player)—is out today (April 22) and can be heard now here: www.soundcloud.com/steveaoki. “Steve Aoki and Waka Flocka Flame may seem like an unlikely duo, but their new song ‘Rage The Night Away’ has all of the right ingredients for an epic party,” wrote Justin Davis of COMPLEX (3/15/14). “Aoki's pulsing, trap-inspired production and Waka's limitless energy help make ‘Rage’ an infectious listen. Waka, outside of his usual production, is the star on this song as he trades in his violent edge for a more party loving image.” Additional details about Neon Future will be revealed in the coming weeks.
To celebrate the release of Neon Future Part 1, STEVE AOKI will headline Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday, August 16. AOKI—who played nearly 300 live shows to one million fans last year—will do a very select run of major appearances in the U.S. leading up to the release of the album including main stage sets at Mysteryland in upstate New York over Memorial Day Weekend and Spring Awakening in Chicago in June, as well as residency dates at Hakkasan in Las Vegas. The Madison Square Garden show will be the pinnacle of all STEVE AOKI shows with top-notch productions, a multitude of special guests and of course rafts and cake.
