Universal Audio Announces Web Launch Of v4.1 Software For UAD-1 DSP Card & Plug-Ins System

Universal Audio, a manufacturer of high-quality vintage audio hardware and DSP software plug-ins for digital audio workstations, today announced the web launch of v4.1 software for the UAD-1 DSP Card & Powered Plug-Ins system. Version 4.1 includes a 14-day, fully functional demo of the third in the highly coveted Precision Mastering Series - the Precision Multiband plug-in.

The Precision Multiband dynamics processor naturally compliments our highly-regarded Precision Equalizer and Precision Limiter to round out the UAD-1 as a sonically superior mastering solution." said Mike Barnes, Director of Marketing for Universal Audio. "We gathered input from respected mastering engineers, analyzed the top-rung competitive hardware and software (sonically and feature-wise), and came up with a highly versatile compressor/expander/gate complimented by a solid set of practical and useful presets. "

Key Features include:

  • Five bands of dynamic range control including Compression, Expansion or Gate
  • Comprehensive control of Gain, Ratio, Threshold, Attack, Release and Bandwidth
  • Two filterbank modes-Linear Phase and Minimum Phase
  • Sample rates up to 96kHz
  • Per band bypass, solo and mute controls as well as Global parameter copy and edit
  • Visualization of dynamic EQ response and color-coded bands for at-a-glance editing

"The Precision Multiband is one of our most sophisticated and DSP-intensive plug-in designs and employs five independent spectral bands of dynamic range control usable in either minimum phase or linear phase coherent modes." said Joe Bryan, UA's VP of Technology. "Multiple compressor and filter designs underwent a series of "golden ears" tests and careful tuning for sample rates up to 96kHz until we felt we had a winner!"

About the UAD-1 DSP Card

At the heart of every UAD-1 DSP Card & Powered Plug-Ins package is the revolutionary UAD-1 DSP card. Because of its high resolution, floating-point processing, ultra high-speed memory and hardware dithering, the UAD-1 delivers outstanding high-headroom sound quality at sample rates from 32 to 192khz. Unlike other DSP cards, the UAD-1 uses a single, unpartitioned vector processor, allowing for larger and more sophisticated plug-in algorithms offering a new level of power and complexity not found with host-based plug-ins. By greatly reducing the burden on the computer's CPU, the host application can now deliver more tracks, automation and native effects.
