Aaron LaCrate is by no means the first DJ/producer to have embraced the B-more (aka Baltimore) club scene. But with the help of Debonair Samir, this popular New York–based selector is certainly helping to spread the good word about this addictive sound with B-More Club Crack. On this 15-track compilation, LaCrate and Samir introduce some of Baltimore''s most notable club-conscious MCs. While many mainstream rappers continue to create generic club anthems, these spitters actually sound sincere whether they deliver flossy braggadocio (Verb''s “Rockin With the Best”) or give instruction for wild-style dance moves (Mz. Streamz''s “Tear It Up”). And even though LaCrate and Samir''s productions can be simple in structure, not one of their beats is boring. Mixing elements of house and other styles of dance music into hip-hop, they have a lot of room to play with, and Samir and LaCrate keep the club atmosphere at the forefront of their aim. Taking cues from a futuristic industrial sound on one cut (“Hit the Road”) and then classic house on the next (“Oh My Gosh”), this B-more–bred duo pays close attention to the artists they work with and ensure that each single is worthy of standing on its own.
