You know that cheesy scene at the end of Return of the Jedi, which George Lucas added 20 years after the original, when the different cultures from all across the galaxy break out celebrating their wish for the Emperor’s death coming true? That’s how I imagine Propellerhead Reason users reacting to today’s news. Their #1 wish will come true May 29 when the Reason 9.5 update adds support for VST plug-ins.

Besides just the long-awaited addition of VST support, Propellerhead promises that Reason’s unique workflow will let you work with those plug-ins in new and creative ways.

For example, you’ll be able to drag-and-drop VST plug-ins into the Reason Rack, create CV and audio connections from the plug-ins to other devices, attach them to Reason’s Player devices, and add them to Combinator patches with other Reason devices and Rack Extensions.

The Reason 9.5 update comes out May 29 and will be free for Reason 9 users. If you buy or upgrade to Reason 9 now ($399 street or $129 to upgrade from any version), you can get the update on May 29 for free. Current users are also eligible to join the beta testing for 9.5.

VST support in Reason 9.5: It’s the “death of the Emperor” for electronic musicians.
