New from Zoom is the H2 Handy Recorder, a lightweight, portable recorder with three mic capsules for midside recording. One directional mic is in the center (mid) and two directional mics (side) are positioned left and right. The H2 can record from the front or rear of the unit at 90- or 120-degree angles in up to 96 kHz/24-bit WAV format, or as MP3 at up to 320 kbps. Additionally, it can record 360-degrees in 48 kHz/24-bit format, allowing recordings to be converted to Surround 5.1.
The recorder features one button recording, gain controls, a backlit display, a USB 2.0 interface, and time stamping and track marking functions in Broadcast WAV Format (BWF). It comes with a mic clip adapter, tripod stand, USB cable, AC adapter, and a 512 MB SD card.
With a 4 GB SD memory card, the H2 can record up to 2 hours at 96 kHz, 6 hours at 44.1 kHz, or 138 hours in MP3. Two standard alkaline AA batteries provide four hours of continuous operation.
