Cakewalk has announced Dimension Pro software synthesizer (Mac/Win; $359; upgrade in Project5, $99). Originally a part of Project5 version 2, Cakewalk has made the synth cross platform and added a 2-DVD sound library with over 1500 multisamples and grooves. Dimension Pro combines sample mapping, physical modeling, and analog-style synthesis. The instrument supports Audio Units and VST on the Mac, and VST and DX in Windows.
You can mix and layer up to four stereo parts per program. Dimension Pro's MIDI Control Matrix lets you map MIDI controllers to all of synth's functions. A Vector Mixer, which can be controlled by mouse or MIDI, lets you morph sounds by gliding between the different elements of a program.
Dimension Pro includes 20 LFOs and 20 envelope generators per program, which can sync to the host tempo. The synth supports multiple Velocity and keyboard switching and crossfading. The effects section offers insert and send effects for each part, including a bit-reducer and decimator, 16 filter types, five tone-drive modes, three stackable parametric EQs, six delay types, three chorus types, LFO filters, autopan, reverb, and modulation effects.
